Survival Fishing – Small Panfish

I took a break from turkey hunting to film a short segment on survival fishing in the Florida woods. There are lots of small fish available in temporary ponds and drains that would be possible to eat in a survival situation. One only needs light tackle and a bait they’ll hit.

In the future I will put this technique into practice on an overnight camping trip on public land.

Great video and I subbed. Where I am right now some of the small fish are way sweet to eat and as you say if you catch enough you can have a good feed up. I'm using number 10's too. Anything smaller I've got to get out the microscope to tie them LOL!

nice video! I call that kind of fishing "dippin for dinks",as I will catch small fish like that too, at spillways where lakes drain, with tiny plastics, but just for fun. Since you said you like to have real small hooks with you in your backpack, I reccomend that you try mini trout magnets. mini trout magnets are tiny plastic bait, and jighead. the jighead weight is 1/200 oz and the hook is #14 size. you can also get packs of just the tiny jigheads if desired.

If you like to use smaller hooks try using fly tying hooks they get pretty small

As for bait?  Try Slim Jim beef jerky.  Much cheaper than those commercial baits that are way over priced and you might be surprised by the results.

Not to mention it gives new meaning to the old statement:  “Well….we didn't catch any fish so we ate the bait”!

At any rate this is an excellent, as well as an informative video.

Speaking of survival, you have an edible thistle in the lower left of the screen at the beginning,
